Glossary

Definitions of key terms used throughout this dataset.

RWD
Rear Wheel Drive - power is sent to the rear wheels only.
FWD
Front Wheel Drive - power is sent to the front wheels only.
AWD
All Wheel Drive - power is distributed to all four wheels for improved traction.
Battery (kWh)
Kilowatt-hours - a measure of the total energy storage capacity of the vehicle's battery pack. Larger batteries generally provide longer driving range.
EPA Range
The estimated driving range calculated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency under standardized test conditions.
MPGe
Miles Per Gallon Equivalent - a measure used to compare the energy efficiency of electric vehicles to traditional gasoline-powered cars. 33.7 kWh of electricity equals one gallon of gasoline.
MSRP
Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price - the sticker price before taxes, fees, or incentives.
ICE
Internal Combustion Engine - used in plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs) alongside an electric motor for extended range.
DC Fast Charge
A high-powered charging method that can charge an EV battery to 80% in 30-60 minutes. Standards include Tesla Supercharger, CCS (Combined Charging System), and CHAdeMO.
PHEV
Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle - a vehicle that combines an electric motor with a gasoline engine and can be charged by plugging in.
